What Childhood Could Be – and What it might be

Simon Okwayo has visited Austin a couple of times that I know about. The first time, I was able to prevail upon him to come to the studio.
He told some stories of his childhood. Amazing. Now, he grew up in Africa, in a situation with a lot less material abundance than we in the States had then and have now. But he and his family were believers. And as a young boy, he moved out on that faith. Very surprising result. Very inspiring. And it turned out that he was indicative of his life’s work. He is known as an apostle because he has started many churches, including in the Middle East.

I am sure you will enjoy hearing Brother Simon’s history. It is a great story to contemplate as you plan the summer for your children. Think what childhood could be. Think what youth could be.

The last time I saw Apostle Okwayo was at a house church meeting in Lake Travis. We were packed in. Before he started his comments, he challenged us, where were the children? We should not leave our children behind. The one father who was there who was young enough to have a child (by our expectations) pointed out that he had his son right there with him. The rest of the crowd didn’t respond, even with their faces. You see, there in Austin, everyone in the room was old enough to have any children that they may have had be old enough to be out of the home. YOu see, no one in the room expected ever to have more than at most maybe 4 children. Probably poll the room and find an average of 2 children a piece, and since everyone was over 50, no one had “left children at home” to come to a church meeting.

Why the challenge? Really, it was a correction. At some length. But no one was at all convicted. Blank faces, because I think no one understood. Conceptually, “Okay: children should come to church not left at home. What is going on? ” That is what they were thinking if they were even awake enough.

From an African point of view, anyone over 20 is probably married and starting to have children. So anyone over 50 should have a houseful. Maybe 10 children. So, any Christian meeting would be on the whole, mostly people less than 18 years of age. Okwayo had concluded that since there was only one child, everyone had left their children at home. No, he was assuming there were many more children than there were.

You might think through why they are not. What are the downsides of that which have not been recognized? What might we do to make for at least choice? Please recognized that our ideas so far have not worked well. Check out an old book The Government is Not a Village. What might be done differently? Maybe more like the Bible? Stop thinking in judgmentalness of what others should do. What might we do?

Think what childhood might be. Think what youth could be. We have great preachers who credit their parents. We have youth who are overcoming what their parents gave them. What could be from here?

How to Talk to Your Children

How to talk to your children, brought to you by famous sales trainer and mother of 5. This is one of my most favorite episodes. Back in 2009 Dani Johnson, of multi-level marketing fame talked with us about her book *Grooming The Next Generation for Success.* She gives detailed examples of how she talks to her children. You will be amazed at the good results.

Next time, what she said then about the porn assault on children. Then, it might have been news. Next after that, we will share with you from someone else’s podcast, a successful attempt at getting porn directed at children out of a municipal library — and the vicious reaction. It is really time to think.

For now, while you are all cozy with your family during these holidays, surely you want to think about how you speak with your children.

Rescue of Children – Sex Abuse Rings Busted

In our series of the great rescues that God did over this Passover season, we are going to cover a rescue of children from sexual abuse rings. We will not talk about the horrible details. I heard this from a ministry I trust. I could not find examples during the exact week. What I did find was reputable, conventional news sources reporting this regularly over the last 3 years or so. I had not really heard much about it. Had I mentioned elite people participating in child sexual abuse, with or without idolatrous religious connections, and/or law enforcement stopping and prosecuting same, I would have been mocked as a conspiracy theorist. However, apparently, this indeed was going on. Obviously, anyone who would do such a thing would like to keep it secret. That it is regularly being reported that there are “busts” is a good thing — if we can assume that these reports are true. If even half true, then some children were rescued. If there are ongoing abuses, let alone a trend, then more and more children are being rescued. Future children won’t be abused, thank God.

This Passover/Resurrection season surely has been amazing. We are in a regroup now, a shut-in time (hopefully shut in with God), in order to be released into working in the Great Awakening manifested on Pentecost. I think many of us are being awakened during this time. We are finding new news sources, and sloughing off old, corrupt ones. We are discovering corruption in most sectors or society. Our eyes are being opened to the creeping evil and resultant slavery even in our own country, cities, and homes.

Let’s a greet every revelation with thanks. God is on the move.First we hear the rustle. Then we go with God.

Let’s prepare to go with God. And God wants total well-being for all children!

Agree, Sleep, and Stop Crazy the Screen Addiction — and everything becomes better

Practical Parenting… So Kids Stay Grounded In A Spinning World — Keith McCurdy

Dr. Keith McCurdy gives near panacea advice to families, youth : parents must agree, kids get 10 hours of sleep, and kids must do a social media fast… and then we can deal with whatever problems remain. Amazing. Rings true.
So, whether the problem is anxiety, ADD/ADHD, rebellion, mental illness or whatever else, if we start with a healthy baseline, then the problems reduce… and can be addressed.
Parental agreement (just on how to proceed in this instance rather than on everything) , sleep, and stopping the spinning crisis world of screens… yes, that looks exactly like the key to me.
McCurdy is a pyschologist and is interviewed by the Base Camp Live podcast, which centers on classical education. Everyone will profit.
