New to Homeschooling? Then, I can guess your top 3 questions. Here are the answers:  Yes, most can homeschool.  But can I get my little one over the hump of reading and writing?  Yes, you Can Teaching Reading and Writing. Yes, You can figure out what your child needs. Here is encouragement and real help.

Lots of people are starting to homeschool. Fortunately, we have faced the fears before you. Welcome. Fear one: Can you do it? Yes. Can you teach reading and writing. Well, yes, if you find out how. BTW, it is teaching Writing (handwriting) and only THEN reading. Bet you didn’t know that. Know why? Because your model is public schooling.

You know public schooling is doing a bad job now. Did you know that it has been doing an increasingly bad job for 100 years?  Yes. The good part about that is that we have other methods that have shown for 100 years that it can be done better. I will let you in on the secret on that teaches handwriting, reading, and composition the most easily. It is like games. For 4 year olds! They love it.

NO MORE DREARY DEADENING STULTIFYING WORKSHEETS. Throw out the worksheets (for teaching handwriting especially.) They don’t work. Did they work for you? Were they fun? Do you want to teach your kids that learning is not fun? That they can’t do it? if so, use worksheets. if not… listen to this episode.

Pattern of Lies

How to not be Fooled by the Lies

We see how to not be deceived by the pattern of lies, liars, and lying spirits. We can look around us and see that we , our friends, and a good deal of our nation has been deceived, and badly so.  We have a story in the Bible about a liar sent to be used in warfare.   His name was Rabshakeh, and he was a captain, sent my a brutal marauding emperor Senacharib, to talk to the men of Judah, get them snookered, discouraged, and confused. Thus, he hoped to make his battle against the easier. Actually, he was pretty good at it. Rabshakeh used a pattern of accusations, lies, and false deals.  it might have worked had the Judahites not believed in God; had they not known something about that God was different; had there not been a prophet on the seen and a good king.   Isaiah 37( & II Chronicles 36 and 2Kings 18 & 19)

Lies, Accusations, Projections, Intimidation, Misleading Deals

We are going to look at prophet Isaiah’s memory of the incident. he doesn’t sanitize the picture that Rabshakeh paints as much as Ii Chronicles.  Fear is a weapon. Confusion is a weapon. But hope for normalcy can also be a weapon. Notice that he gives misleading deals, painted with comforting words. The kingdom needed to take a step back and carefully consider. They needed to compare what they were hearing with what they knew. They needed to consult God.

is This Really an Attack on the Church?

In the final analysis, the attack was on God and God’s character. Rabshakeh was only a captain, doing what his emperor was telling him.  That emperor worshiped an idol that today we think really was a front for a demon.  Anyway, God was personally confronted. Not just the religion; not just the kingdom, not just all the people, but the thing went to the depth. Rabshakeh used God’s person name and said over and over that that God could not stand up to the Assyrians.

And so, God took it personally. We see in the end of the story, how God reserved the lat move for Himself. Judah won without fighting this time. Most of the time, they did have to show up. This time, they had to just not be deceived by the lying.

So, today, we focus on the pattern of lying.

If this is not very clear to you, would you like a retrospective, along with a course in reasoning? Seriously, I am so amazed in a bad way at how people have been so fooled. Can people really be that stupid? Are that many people really paid off? What is going on?

Teaching What to Think or How to Think?

It used to be a rallying cry in education that we should teach students how to think rather than what to think. Looks like it was honored in the breach, doesn’t it? When educators today do attempt to teach thinking skills, it is called “critical thinking.” Why not analytical and synthetic thinking? Analytical thinking could sort through claims to find which are true/factual. Synthetic could build arguments and create in whatever topic area. Critical thinking sounds negative. It sounds destructive. It sounds anti-traditional. It sounds like “critical race theory.” All of that is for good reason — it is.

“Critical thinking” was supposed to be superior to traditional thinking that merely accepted what was taught. It is a synonym for more sophisticated, less moral and less traditional thinking. Unfortunately, many people learned this anti-God content, pride, and a false sense themselves as sophisticated in college — and then promptly stopped learning, or continuing to critique what they were taught, and indeed maybe stopped cognizing at all! Maybe that is harsh? Check out the sophomoric discussions of undergrads in the coffee house.

Worst of all, plainly, it was teaching what to think. And the results have not been good. Not for anyone.

Take a look at the resources for teaching “critical thinking skills” that come, unbidden, into faculty mailboxes and you will find an anti-traditional, anti-God bias. However, good I find that good logic skills can often be used in arguing for God and evangelism. Logic, as contrasted with “critical thinking” should be taught, and used — practiced in practical ways.

It is up to you parents to teach thinking skills. I doubt that a title “Logic” would be appealing except to a few parents home school in the classical method. Good titles are important. Feel free to suggest some.

Next week, we will begin a teach-in on thinking skills and statistics for citizens applied to the current concern. Nearly everyone’s attention is STILL on the subject. There is considerable doubling down on lies and malfeasance and a nascent uprising of informed citizens. Hope you find this helpful. Please share.
