Where are the pictures of the pilgrims? How — and why! — has that history been erased. Let’s think about that today.
This is a rerun from 2020. Some of us who said things that weren’t always well received in 2020 can now legitimately toot our own horn. It is time for the recognition of discernment and wisdom.

Let’s sort our our curricular problems in education, just as we sort out method. Our children should not be hampered by the refusal to teach them facts. Or by the lack of wisdom in how to teach them.

Today, not just a diatribe but some good ideas for what to do with the children this Thanksgiving weekend.

Let’s also consider some gift giving — whether Christmas, or if in your house it is Hanukah. Books are always great. We have some.

GOOD NEWS – SO YOU CAN BE RESCUED

Promises from God for overcoming. Engagement is required. Beds of roses not always available. However, victory IS available — with God. God’s way is a way of truth and righteousness/justice. Psalm for the year is 85. Check out verse 11, knowing that righteousness (doing the right thing) and justice are the same word in Hebrew (original language in which the Psalm was written. )

If you don’t know the Lord, if you are not saved (rescued), then pray this prayer from your heart: “Dear God, I am sorry for my sins and I am willing to go your way, the right way. I believe you raised Jesus from the dead (so you have great power to improve everything including my life) and I recognize you as Lord (meaning God an the authority.) Please save me now. ” Pray this prayer, and then believe, according to Romans 10:10 that you ARE saved and will be saved, based on God’s faithfulness to His Word. This works for now and all eternity.

The rescued are called to be rescuers.

I hope you all have a wonderful day celebrating Independence. July the 4th is the day that we celebrate liberty (freedom under the rule of law) in the United States. It is evident that we must all work toward this goal these days. Part of that is teaching civics.
In the early American colonies and during the founding of the United States, until very late in the 1800s, we used The New England Primer to teach reading, based in Biblical principles. This became the value set that was passed down and continued to buttress our way of governing ourselves. Founders said that only a virtuous Christian people could be governed in liberty. We have forgotten much of this, and been taught contrary ideas.

Today, I discuss first the little product I have of 6 audio episodes discussing the civics of the New England Primer. Then, discussing why it is important to teach civics and actual history, I tell an amusing incident that recently happened to me, regarding Juneteenth. Juneteenth is a holiday IN TEXAS that remembers the day that the Emancipation Proclamation was announced in Texas, the state in the confederacy the farthest away from Washington DC and President Lincoln. Of course, we are for liberty and against enslavement. Aren’t we?

STEM is science, technology, engineering and math. It was heralded as a step forward, after low American scores. More recently art was added. So STEAM is all the rage. Wait. What? While we are celebrating, now for years, something we did very badly, and still do even worse…. what is missing. What is being hidden? Watch out.

This is dangerous. See why. Come to your own conclusions. Join me through a few stories for a fun ride. With an ending realization that History and Civics, done well of course, should be the center of education. That is what is being left out.
