Tips on Homeschooling to Keep you Out of Legal Trouble

Last in our series for our new homeschoolers: basic legal tips and system navigation tips to keep you out of trouble. We have given you the steps in order. Different states will differ, but if you sign up with the organizations we tell you, you will be fine. Be sure not to be accused of truancy. This might happen if the child was enrolled in school and then doesn’t show up. This is an punishable offense, so avoid it by simple officially withdrawing the student. Secondly, be prepared for any challenge that you are abusing your child. It is a serious charge, has been abused by social workers and judges. The simple preventative is to have legal representation ahead of time, in the form of your club membership. Thirdly, do not be taken in by lies that public school officials will tell you, unintentionally or not. Further, don’t be frightened by their bullying. I give you some of my stories, since now they are old enough to avoid lawsuits or embarrassment; however, the same behavior, and worse, goes on today. Here the whole story.

Marxism and Maoism in Public School Curricula

In our series for new homeschoolers, we cover the major philosophies behind the curricula in the public schools, addressing sexual and Marxist content. While we tend to assume school is not like it used to be, the new situation is opening parental eyes to what is going on in schools.

Home Education TIME HELP

Continuing in our series on encouraging those educating their children at home, or newly supervising their children’s education at home, we address the time challenges. To that end, I have offers some forms that should be very helpful. Unfortunately, so far, I have not found a way to post those as a separate document with native Word formatting. For the time being, the info is posted here (trying to translate from Word to WordPress). Hope you can make sense of it. I will post it as a separate document that can be easily printable, and more easily read, accessible from the FREE page — when and if I figure out how. 🙂

I give you ideas for a variety of situations. Forms to help posted soon. Please feel free to ask your questions as comments on the website. Anyone can answer/contribute their ideas also.

SYLABUS/GOAL SHEET

SUBJECT:

GOAL for Teaching this Subject:

This is the why. Of course we want to make grades, but that is not the reason that this particular course was chosen. Is this a vital occupational skill? Is this knowledge that a citizen or parent needs? What is the benefit for learning this? Why did you choose it? (This is often left out and you will find it is very productive to consider and discuss with students.)

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

These are often given in the textbooks themselves. If so, then consider them well. Secular education may have different designs that you do. However, every lesson plan or chapter is aimed at teaching something specific. It helps both you the presenter/evaluator and the student to spell out what that is.

DISCIPLINE OBJECTIVES:

Put whatever rules you need to put. Add any character traits you are working on.

METHOD OF PRESENTATION:

Consider how best to get the information, skills, and attitudes over.

METHOD OF EVALUATION:

Spell out exactly how the grade will be decided.

You might have a section before this one on what kind of work you want the student to produce, but normally in college contexts, this is incented so the 2 possible sections are one.

Put possible projects here or in the ACTION/PRODUCTION section.

RESOURCES:

List any texts, books, movies, realia, etc. that you want to make the student aware of. Please remember that this list works not only for your student and you, but also double as documentation of your bona fide education plans should someone in authority be checking. WEEK/DAY SCHEDULE

Learn at Home For Great Shalom

Drawing from my own experiences both as an educator and then as a grandparent of some boys with some special learning needs, and at the command of my pastor, I wrote this book. This book helps you to consider all the aspects of what you need to teach and know what methods and then lastly, what curriculum to use. Often, mothers go about it the wrong way, directly to picking a curriculum that their friend found helpful. That might work, but to consider all the needs, and have a guide through the methods, and then pick a curriculum will find a much surer, better result. This is a unique, easy to understand methodology. This is a unique ministry, aiming for faith for overcoming learning problems rather than assuaging hurt feelings and urging resignation. This is a vital resource. Get it now. Click through on the right sidebar and the printer can send it either electronically or through print on demand. This is perhaps the most important investment you will ever make for your children.
