There is no false hope.

Finishing up a series on grandparent health, I’m re-running one episode from my last, only other, such series. It applies equally to younger people. There is no such thing as false hope. Anyone who tells you that has some interest in you giving up hope… either because then they will feel better given the poor choices they have made…. or they will profit from your resignation. There is a lot of this.

Science tells us that if you have an optimistic outlook, but fail to achieve or receive what was hoped for, that your brain automatically goes into hyper-drive to figure out what to do. This is exactly what we want.

Jesus told us “have faith in God” and we know that hope is the foundation of that faith. We can’t lose hope.

So encourage your kids to go after everything they desire — in a good way. And encourage yourself and your older friends to hope for a better outcome and figure out how to get there. Normally the answer is right there. Even if not, the struggle for better is meritorious. Someone else may benefit. Aren’t you glad that Abraham Lincoln kept pursuing office? That Thomas Edison kept pursuing scientific discovery? That so many kept pursuing a better life, culture, economy that you benefit from?

Overcoming Disappointment

Kids with Learning Disabilities maybe have the greatest challenge in overcoming disappointment. They are skilled, smart, and they know it, but their disability gets them disrespected and discredited. Imagine having disgraphia but having brilliant things to write, yet your teacher can not read it. Or won’t.

Learning to overcoming disappointment may be the greatest skill in the world. Every one, including the most brilliant scientist and the greatest entrepreneur has faced setback. The ones that win were the ones that got back up. While yes, some are blessed and gifted, everyone has some gift and some blessing. Some have turned their very difficulty into a blessing. Mark Twain was told he would never amount to anything. Alexander the Great was an orphan. Wayne Dyer was a foster child. Eveyone must learn to overcome disappointment.

Kids with learning disabilities might have to learn this earlier and more often. I’d like to change that for all of them. I’d like to do away with disappointment. To the extent I can not, however, I will point out the benefit of learning to overcome disappointment.

It is comforting to think that those who are attacked by disappointment the most are those who have high goals and are not settling, not resigning themselves. It seems real that those who are fighting for Good are the very ones who have to face the army of Evil. It would be better if we had friends to stand with us, but when we do not, then even more, we must use the muscle of overcoming disappointment.

Here is a word from someone else on the matter:

Disappointment Is God Saying "Better Is Just Ahead"

Blessings to all of you. Please pray for me also. –Sister Sharon

Pray in Faith

We want to pray. We want answers. We have a hard time even having hope, let alone faith, that we will get the answers we want. Why is that? Perhaps it is because we do not know the will of God. why shouldn’t God want your child to overcome a learning disability or any other problem? Perhaps it is because we have never moved close enough to God, snuggled up to God, to enable Holy Spirit to pray through us. Perhaps it is because we have been taught any number of things that are incorrect! let me unpack scripture that says to pray in faith.
BTW, what is faith? according to the Greek word for faith, pistis, it is reliance on God. Imagine you relied on a trustworthy friend. You would ask and not worry, right? You lean on that friend’s trustworthiness, right? It is the same with God. We can trust he wants the best for us. We figure God knows more about it than we do. We can ask for a good outcome… and maybe ask how we can help.
Hear how.

Pray in Confidence

We are re-running an episode on prayer from 2011. We talk about why and how you might pray in confidence.
I realize we feel like begging, but when we know what God’s will is, when God has declared healing in the Scripture, begging is not the most effective method. Confidence can be had, based on Scripture. Hear how.
