Monarchs think that authority lies in themselves, so for them and for those in that system, authority is personal. But John Calvin and John Knox, authority was official, residing in the office. Based on Calvin’s vision, John Knox wrote a document entitled “Book of Discipline” which outlined representative government for Scotland. This was the first time that representative democracy was instituted in a nation.
Our method of government, our understanding of freedom, came from The Reformation (specifically Calvinism as applied in Scotland and England), which was rooted in the Protestant understanding of the Bible.
Contrary to what is commonly taught today.
