John Adams meant all of one’s behavior when he said “manners” in the quote pictured. Today, normally, when we say “manners” we mean the little details of deference and politeness. I would suggest that when we teach our children these details, they are a sign for the bigger character issues that are so extremely important for success and happiness. Character is the fount of action, filled by God’s direction, and issuing in a  good life: shalom.
