AUSTIN – The Red Apple Project, a project of Americans for Prosperity, announced the first winner of its Rotten Apple Award, an “honor” to be given each week to the Texas school district that has the most egregious examples of mis-appropriating education dollars. AFP receives nominations submitted by activists and allows individuals to vote on the submissions. This week’s nominations can be found at the survey link and can be found weekly at the Red Apple Project website.
Budget Moves; Liberals Cluck Away

House appropriators have approved a new $164.5 billion all-funds state budget — living within the revenues available. It’s far from a done deal, even as liberals predictably cluck on. House Bill 1 could be on the floor as early as Thursday of next week. It reportedly spends $77.6 billion in “general revenues.”

Texas media outlets scrubbed extremist groups, unions and signs of political organization from their coverage of the recently held Save Texas Schools rally. Socialists groups, Organizing for America, and unions were out in force for the rally but did not get any air time or ink.

“We have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it.” I was incredulous and appalled when Nancy Pelosi first made this infamous statement last year, and even more horrified when, eleven days later, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care act, better known as Obamacare, was signed into law on March 21, 2010. Looking back one year later, the state of our health care system has declined, not improved.
